TotalEnergies SE (NYSE: TTE) has announced a partnership with Air Liquide to increase the effort to decarbonize hydrogen production. Both the firms aimed to develop low-carbon Hydrogen production in the Normandy platform in France. This collaboration between Air Liquide and TotalEnergies is in line with their common goal to assist decarbonize industrial operations in the “Axe Seine/Normandy”.

It has been disclosed that the suggested transfer of the hydrogen production unit to Air Liquide is dependent on the process of alerting and discussing to the worker spokesperson of the TotalEnergies Normandy platform, and the authorization from the competent organizations under French law.

Furthermore, as per the long-term contract agreement, Air Liquide will acquire and run the 255 tons-per-day hydrogen production unit at the TotalEnergies platform in Normandy. When this unit will be connected to the hydrogen network of Air Liquide it will help it to enhance its performance and, in the end, develop the world’s first low-carbon hydrogen network.

Additionally, the firm will roll out development research to implement a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project to decarbonize the hydrogen manufactured in this unit at the Normandy platform. Furthermore, Air Liquide would install its Cryocap process to get CO2, while TotalEnergies manage shipping and storage of the captured CO2.

It has been believed that this partnership would decrease the carbon emissions from the unit’s hydrogen production by roughly 650,000 tons of CO2 per year by 2030. Previously, in July 2021, TotalEnergies SE and Air Liquide joined hands with other industrial firms to ink a Memorandum of Understanding. Memorandum of Understanding aims to develop carbon capture and storage infrastructure in Normandy with the aim to cut CO2 emissions by more than 3 million tons per year by 2030.
