Synaptics Incorporated (NASDAQ: SYNA) has announced the launch of the Edge AI evaluation kit (EVK) for the rapid development and prototyping of artificial intelligence (AI) applications at the edge. The EVK is based on the Synaptics low-power Katana system-on-chip (SoC) platform. The kit brings together the vision, motion, and sound sensing hardware and software with wired and wireless connectivity to streamline the design and development of edge AI for the IoT.

Synaptics Katana Edge AI EVK speeds up the development of smart-home security and assisted living applications, as well as industrial vision solutions, smart buildings, and smart cities. Synaptics disclosed that the market for low-power edge AI solutions is characterized by a broad spectrum of applications that have particular use case needs. What they all have in common is that they all need a sophisticated and efficient image, audio, speech, and motion data detection and analysis.

Katana Edge AI EVK includes baseboard with the Katana SoC with advanced neural network engine for low-power edge AI processing, sensors for imaging, audio, voice, and motion, Synaptics Wi-Fi + Bluetooth low energy (BLE) wireless connectivity module, accessories for people detection application development, including mounting bar and clips for the overhead camera, Cabling, Batteries, Enclosure, and Instructions and software.

Furthermore, according to Valuates Reports, the edge AI hardware market is expected to reach $38.9 billion by 2030. It represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 19 percent from 2021. Automotive and consumer electronics are driving this expansion because they require the real-time, low-latency response edge that AI provides.

In addition, Synaptics stated that Edge AI and sensor fusion are complicated, diverse domains of application development. The company has discovered that having a more complete platform of hardware, software, wireless connection, and technical support helps its customers get their IoT concepts to market faster.
