STAAR Surgical Company (NASDAQ: STAA) confirmed that FDA has awarded authorization to the EVO/EVO+ Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (EVO) for the treatment of myopia and myopia with astigmatism. Myopia, often known as nearsightedness or the requirement for distance vision correction, is the most common eye disease worldwide, with an increasing frequency.

Shares of STAAR Surgical Company surged 17.90% during the premarket trading session on Monday. The high performance of the company’s stock indicated the positive sentiments of the investors. After the FDA clearance, potential patients and their doctors in the United States can now choose EVO to achieve Visual Freedom without the limits, continuous maintenance, or hassle of eyeglasses or contact lenses.

The company confirmed that the EVO lens is an additive lens that offers good vision day and night, does not promote dry eye syndrome, and may be removed by a doctor if desired. 4,5,6 Outside of the United States, EVO lens sales climbed 51 percent in 2021 and have more than doubled since 2018, indicating that patients and our surgeon partners are increasingly choosing EVO as the premium and main solution for refractive vision correction.

Furthermore, surgeons will be educated and trained in EVO, and EVO will be implanted in select cities in the following days and weeks. In addition, EVOs are placed behind the iris and in front of the normal crystalline lens in the posterior chamber of the eye. In the United States, previous versions of the Visian ICL lens required a preoperative peripheral iridotomy, which is no longer necessary with EVO, resulting in improved patient comfort and time efficiency for both the surgeon and the patient.

The EVO Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) is approved for use in phakic eye treatment in patients aged 21 to 45 years for the correction/reduction of myopia in patients with a spherical equivalent ranging from -3.0 D to -20.0 D at the spectacle plane. It will be used to correct/reduce myopic astigmatism in individuals who have a spherical equivalent of -3.0 D to -20.0 D and a cylinder of 1.0 D to 4.0 D at the spectacle plane.
