InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ: IDCC) disclosed that it has successfully executed the Horizon 2020 Enabling Practical Wireless Tb/s Communications with Next Generation Channel Coding (EPIC) project. A consortium based on eight partners of different sectors including telecom, R&D, and academia has created FEC technology.

FEC technology covers all three major code families Turbo, LDPC, and Polar to fulfill the future cost and performance prerequisites of wireless Tbps technologies for 6G. For 6Gā€™s higher data rates, a transfer from GHz bands to Terahertz (THz) bands, comprising 100GHz spectrum and above, is necessary.

Furthermore, InterDigital, and other firms successfully showed the high-bandwidth 100Gbps wireless baseband encoder and decoder technology, presenting the considerable progress that has been made to provide THz communications. Shares of InterDigital Inc went up 0.66% during the trading session of Tuesday.

The EPIC project centered on the growth of FEC algorithms, which identity and correct errors in shifting data to enhance bandwidth rates when encoding and decoding data. While FEC algorithms are crucial to the future marketing of THz and wireless Tbps technologies, FEC is also one of the most sophisticated and mathematically powerful blocks in the digital bandwidth chain. The EPIC project created three key components including encoder/decoder algorithms, technology IP blocks, and virtual chipset products.
