JD.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: JD) has launched a "Green Impact Initiative" to encourage sustainable consumption across the supply chain. Starting with this year's 618 Grand Promotion, China's largest mid-year shopping festival, JD.com will pick around one million various kinds of products to be green-labeled, making it easier for Chinese shoppers to find and buy green products.

On May 31, the initiative will be introduced on JD's app in partnership with worldwide partners such as P&G, JOMOO, L'Oréal, CHERY, PurCotton, Nestlé, Panasonic, Abbott, and the China Association of Small and Medium Enterprise. Customers can accrue green credits and redeem them for green products, coupons, and accessories, including digital collectibles, by buying these branded products through a newly formed green account system incorporated into JD's app.

Furthermore, JD.com chooses and labels products based on certification, function, application scenario, and packaging materials. Low-carbon transportation products, such as BEVs, sustainable fashion and furnishings products, and energy-efficient appliances, will be among the labeled products.

Previously, in 2017, JD.com established the "Green Stream Initiative," a green supply chain concept. More than 2 billion carton boxes can be saved yearly with the program, which involves more than 200,000 businesses and merchants inventing packaging materials and standards.

The company is committing to reduce carbon emissions by half compared to current levels by 2030 and to collaborate with partners to develop the world's largest rooftop photovoltaic (PV) power generation ecosystem.

Additionally, the company disclosed that the delivery boxes for Green Impact Initiative items are reusable and can be used to make DIY pet houses and storage boxes. JD will launch a massive marketing effort to promote the idea to its over 580 million consumers on June 5, World Environment Day.
