Autoliv, Inc. (NYSE: ALV) announced that it will support the United Nations Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) to enhance the understanding of road safety issues, contribute to better mobility, and help Autoliv achieve its objective of saving 100,000 lives each year. Autoliv and UNRSF will openly promote the Global Plan for the Second Decade of Action 2021-2030 by exchanging valuable ideas, information, and data, to prevent at least 50% of road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030.
Autoliv's mission of Saving More Lives fully supports UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number three, which aims to secure everyone's health and well-being, with one of its goals focusing on reducing global injuries and fatalities from road crashes. Every year, 1.35 million people are killed in traffic accidents, which are the main cause of death among children and young adults.
Furthermore, road traffic fatalities account for more than 90% of all deaths in developing countries. The support of Autoliv for UNRSF is a significant step forward in empowering road safety and increasing knowledge and accessibility of life-saving solutions where they are most needed.
The UNRSF's assistance for Autoliv will immediately result in road safety measures in low- and middle-income countries, spanning from improved vehicle standards and road infrastructure development to effective systems to enhance road user behavior and emergency post-crash response. In low- and middle-income nations, Autoliv is also directly supporting UNRSF project activities. It is the private sector's multi-pronged engagement that will enable the global community to surpass the SDGs on safe, sustainable, and inclusive mobility for all.
