Lightning eMotors, Inc. (NYSE: ZEV) disclosed that it has partnered with General Motors. After the partnership agreement with General Motor, it will be the first GM Specialty Vehicle Manufacturer (SVM) to offer fully electric Class 3 through Class 6 commercial vehicles. As per the agreement, Lightning eMotors will electrify popular medium-duty truck platforms provided by General Motors.

Lightning’s position and role as a top powertrain provider in the commercial vehicle industry, according to ZEV, is a wonderful match for GM’s inclusive approach to electrification. Lightning has solutions in fleet usage today and is available for clients to roll out this year. Commercial vehicles and commercial vehicle powertrains are complicated, with thousands of unique components, demanding years of specialized software development and on-road testing.

Lightning has created a flexible manufacturing solution for medium-duty specialty vehicles such as utility trucks, school buses, and ambulances that allows for scalable and cost-effective electrification. Electrifying these vehicles results in significant cost savings, improved performance, and zero emissions from the tailpipe. Over the previous three years, Lightning eMotors has experienced a significant increase in orders from its clients.

Furthermore, GM has a long track record in the commercial vehicle industry. Lightning’s solutions are designed specifically for these vehicles, classes, and applications, enabling it to respond swiftly to the needs of its medium-duty truck and bus customers. At its manufacturing facility in Loveland, Colorado, Lightning eMotors will electrify select GM platforms. Commercial vehicle makers will receive completed chassis.
