Kosmos (NYSE: KOS) Announces Completion of Drilling Of The Winterfell-2 Appraisal Well

Kosmos Energy Ltd. (NYSE: KOS) disclosed that it has finalized the drilling of the Winterfell-2 appraisal well on Block 943 in the Green Canyon area of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The Winterfell-2 well was drilled to assess the nearby fault block to the northwest of the original Winterfell discovery.

Moreover, it was created to test two horizons that were oil bearing in the Winterfell-1 well, with an exploration tail into a deeper horizon. Furthermore, KOS disclosed that the positive result from Winterfell-2 appraisal well highlights the greater potential in the Winterfell area. The outcomes of the well are promising and offer the help required to progress a low-cost, lower-carbon development scheme that could be made online in around two years.

Winterfell-2 Well

Furthermore, the Winterfell-2 well is situated in nearly 1,600 meters of water. It was drilled to a total depth of around 8,700 meters. An associate of Beacon Offshore Energy LLC is operator of the Winterfell-2 well. In the first and second horizons, the well discovered roughly 40 meters (120 feet) of net oil pay, with better oil saturation and porosity than pre-drill predictions.

A further oil-bearing horizon has been situated in a deeper reservoir by the exploration tail, which is also promising in the blocks to the north. The findings of this appraisal will help to characterize the resource potential in the central Winterfell area, which is estimated to be around 100 million barrels gross at the moment.
